Sifu Doug George
A Life in Martial Arts
Foundations of a Warrior
Born in 1948, Sifu Doug began his journey in martial arts under the guidance of two powerful influences: his father, a professional boxer and his first and greatest coach, and the esteemed Hatashita Judo Club, where he trained for approximately four years as a teenager. These early years laid the groundwork for his lifelong dedication to the martial arts, discipline, and self-mastery.
He furthered his training with Hook Macomb, a respected local fighter and instructor associated with the Waterloo Region Police Force. Through these experiences, Sifu Doug gained a deep respect for the power, control, and responsibility inherent in combat arts.
Lifelong Learning – Embracing Diverse Arts
As life unfolded, so did Sifu Doug’s deepening passion for martial arts. His journey expanded beyond his early training to include the rich traditions of Kung Fu, the striking power of Kickboxing, and the practicality of combat-based self-defense. Over the years, he dedicated himself to mastering and teaching a wide range of disciplines, including traditional Kung Fu forms and weapons, ground fighting, throws, sweeps, joint locks, and street survival tactics. Recognizing the importance of longevity and physical well-being, he also emphasizes stretching and mobility practices. Sifu Doug teaches through the TaoSport philosophy—“The Way”—guiding students toward inner balance, personal strength, and a clear, focused mind.

Passing the Torch – A Family Legacy
Sifu Doug’s lifelong dedication to martial arts has deeply influenced his family, inspiring his three sons to carry on the tradition and create a powerful, multi-generational martial arts legacy.
Matthew – The Eldest Son
Matthew studied Kung Fu for six years and became a dedicated instructor, especially known for teaching children’s classes with patience and care. Though he has since retired from the art, he continues to carry its discipline and values with him in daily life.
Sifu Zach – The Second Son
Zach is a 6th Degree Master Level Black Belt and the proud owner of Return of the Dragon Martial Arts. He earned a Bronze Medal in San Shou at the World Championships, making him the only Canadian to achieve this distinction. As an internationally recognized coach and competitor, Zach has won countless awards at the provincial, national, and international levels. He continues to travel the world training and coaching elite athletes, sharing his knowledge and pushing the boundaries of martial excellence.
Joey – The Youngest Son
Joey is a professional Muay Thai fighter and the North American Cruiserweight Champion. He actively trains and competes in both Muay Thai and Kickboxing, maintaining peak performance in the combat arena. The martial legacy lives on through his sons, Max and Alex, who are now training in martial arts and continuing the family tradition with pride.
Together, the family has traveled across China, Thailand, South Africa, Macedonia, Canada, and the United States—training, competing, and always seeking to expand their knowledge and experience in martial arts.
Philosophy of a Peaceful Warrior
Sifu Doug’s mission goes far beyond physical training. His goal is to help students conquer fear, build inner confidence, and learn how to protect themselves in an unpredictable world.
He draws profound inspiration from Master Sensei Lee I L Cho’s words:
“As a Black Belt, you must always be aware of the responsibility of your position and behave with dignity and honour.”
These words opened a new window in Sifu Doug’s life. They grounded him in the truth that martial arts is a calling to character, not just combat. The Black Belt became more than a rank—it became a spiritual and personal oath.
A Mentor and a Lighthouse
Crossing the threshold of the black belt was a turning point. It marked the beginning of a deeper life purpose—to serve as a guide and mentor, a lighthouse for others seeking strength, wisdom, and peace through martial arts.
Today, Sifu Doug offers his experience and heart to those ready to walk this path.
